Case Study: Northwood University

Founded in 1959, Northwood University serves students at residential campuses located in Southern Florida, mid-Michigan and Northern Texas. Administrators at Northwood University sought to cost-effectively improve campus safety by installing pedestal call boxes.

Challenge

Northwood University sought to provide a campus-wide communications infrastructure to allow for rapid reporting of campus incidents, improve compliance with the Clery Act, increase safety in remote areas such as on jogging trails and isolated walking paths, and improve intra-campus communications.

Solution

Install 17 Code Blue units on three residential campuses and utilize Code Blue units as part of public address systems. Second, provide intra-campus and local calling for students.

Return on Investment

As a result of the installation, Northwood University increased awareness of safety and security on campus, demonstrated a pro-active stance toward safety and security, improved compliance with the Cleary Act, and added the capability for students and faculty to better communicate with security staff on campus. The university also saved money by using the Code Blue speakers as part of its public address system.
